So tonight was one of those nights where you have an awesome night then your just hanging and all these opportunities seem to arise out of thin air that you’d usually work hard to achieve.
I had quite a long day at a workshop on the best way to access the media (esp. the news media) to report on development issues. Hosted by CID (Council for International Development) many communications and PR people from various NGO’s were all there and we were discussing good/bad experiences of getting stories into the news media. Quite interesting stuff but also quite intense at moments when the fact that I was the youngest there by far and also not specifically a communications officer were quite clear and I could only barely keep up with conversations with people. Met some very nice people that have been in the non profit game for yonks and definitely proved a useful networking opportunity.
In the evening I made my way up to Youthline where I am a part of a guiding group for a new Ministry of Health initiative to help young people cope with a depression. This time it’s a website which I think is an appropriate medium for young people that is open and accessible (for most people in one way or another).
The workshop today was led by an awesome woman called Sam who I think does these sort of sessions on ‘Madness’ (or mental illness) for the Mental Health Foundation. She has an awesome style of facilitation and plays some of her own songs on guitar at various times of the evening. Lots of pictures and cards and writing and fun made for a surprisingly comprehensive session on quite a complex issue. Beautiful voice thanks very much Sam!!
After getting home and gobbling some ice-cream with the flatties I headed down to Max’s where we had a session on our computers just browsing around.. Annabel called and we went out to pick her up from the wrap party for the show that she produces which was at Shanghai Lil’s. We picked up some Wendy’s on our way (our usual style) and were waiting in the car when annabel invited us in – we were in out PJ’s but we still went in and had some expensive tequila and beers (on the tab) and were introduced to some of the models from the show (Deal or No Deal). Then Max and I were casually standing around trying hard not to stand out as the two kids with PJ pants on when two gorgeous obviously model girls came over and introduced themselves to us! Haha well Max and I tried but we couldnt sustain the conversation so they eventually left – but I was just please they came to us!! Anyway.
Then we had a hectic drive home and Max drove someones land rover home for them and I drove Max’s car. We eventually made it back just after midnight and we had a munch and watched a few ep’s of Entourage Season 3 (Second half). Wicked.
