Last night I went to see Ratatat play at the Monte Cristo room with Anna, Max, Fran and Jack. Had a great time and really enjoyed the music – quite amazed at the energy of these two – and the fact they can keep people occupied for an entire set with no vocals.
So Fall Out Boy was totally awesome last night! People were giving Gabi and I shit all week but we pushed on nevertheless and went and had an amazing time!
They definitely know they are an entertainment band who mostly cater to 15 yr old teenage girls and boys and really perform their live show to that appeal. Which is fine by me because its super fun!!
After sitting around watching Streetwise Scarlett and All Left Out, Gabi and I went and got some hot chips and pottered around killing time untill FOB started. Oh man and when they dimmed the lights for FOB the crowd went mental – it was the thousands of screaming girls that would of fucked with my hearing that night not the huge PA system!! Ah the fun of it – so anyway they came on stage and their opener was EPIC they played track 1 from their newest album ‘Infinity On High’ first which is called Thriller. On the record it has Jay-Z speaking for a bit – but in a nutshell its a stomper track with a death-metal opener and then into a Fall Out Boy style medely verse and chorus and then closes with more death metal. Pete kept doing those karate style sommersualts with his bass on – quite impressive really and Patrick rocked out hard during the opener I think cause he has some space between singing.
All the singles were dispersed nicely throughout a very comprehensive setlist comprising of their greatest songs mostly from From Under the Cork Tree and Infinity On High – they played a couple from Take This To Your Grave which was nice as well – I heard someone behind us singing line for line during those songs which was impressive!!
They also played some covers – also nicely dispersed within the setlist (this was the last show in their world tour and they sure had crafted a wonderful show!). Firstly Akon’s ‘Don’t Matter’ which is quite funny really! Then Green Day’s ‘Basket Case’ with Pete claiming “This was the first band that truly made him believe in music”. And most notably they did a cover of Michael J’s “Beat It” which was awesome! Pete introduced it by saying “I guarantee you’ll recognize this song.. scream when you recognize it, don’t just scream coz your neighbors screaming!”. Patrick Stump is quite a good singer really. Lastly they said they had a message from some friends and played about 10 secs of Panic!’s “I Write Sins Not Tragedy’s”.
Other awesome things to mention is that one of their roadies jumps out during some of their songs for some screaming, quite awesome really!! Biggest turn-off: Pete’s potty mouth – I’m sorry but I don’t care who it is but I do not like being called a ‘Mother Fucker’ every 10 seconds!!
In other news I’m very very excited about the first announcement for the Big Day Out!! Bjork!! AHH! RATM!!! AHH!! DIZZEE!!
